WILLIAMS

Formed: North Wales, 1969 by MILLER and SAXTON. Heavily inspired by the VELVET UNDERGROUND, they were an essentially live act, who's depressed music made up the soundtrack for the lives of many a pessimistic youth entering the new decade. Were a large influence on THE SEED and DIRYWIO. Style: VELVETS / COHEN influenced sound. Songwriters: Group penned. Trivia: Drummer, MERRIFIELD was previously a member of the much happier sounding CATHY CARROW AND THE COOKIE CRUMBS.

ED MILLER (b.1947)- vocals, guitar / EUROS SAXTON  (b.1950)- bass, vocals / TONY MERRIFIELD (ex-CATHY CARROW AND THE COOKIE CRUMBS) - drums / IFAN HOLM (b.1948)- organ, guitar, violin

Play live across Wales. Eventually release a single:

Aug '76 (7" - 7D1) DISTRYWIWR / OFN YN AML

Call it a day soon after.

SAXTON goes on to form MAXWELL'S MECHANICAL MONKEY WRENCH.
MILLER & MERRIFIELD join THE MURDEROUS GORWEL EDWARDS PARTY.
HOLM joins ALAN JONES AND THE DEAD UNICORNS.

May '04 - DISERCH reform as:

ED MILLER- vocals, guitar / TONY MERRIFIELD - drums  / IFAN HOLM - organ, guitar, violin / EDGAR BROOKS - bass, vocals

They intermittently gig around the valleys.

MAXWELL'S MECHANICAL MONKEY WRENCH
Formed: Lampeter, North Wales, 1976, by SAXTON and TRAGELLEN. Tried to recapture the quirky style of ET CETERA and to fuse it with a contemporary punk ethic. Largely eclipsed by the far quirkier THE MARGARETS. Style: Punk with piano. Heavily influenced by ET CETERA. Songwriters: group penned. Trivia: The EP tracks were different recordings to those on the original single.

EUROS SAXTON (ex-DISERCH) - guitar, vocals / BOB TRAGELLEN (ex-GORWEL EDWARDS) - drums, vocals / DAVID TURNER - piano / ALAN QUAY - bass

Alan JONES and the DEAD UNICORNS
Formed: North Wales, 1976, by JONES, HOLM and ALDRITCH. MILLER was promptly invited in. Generally carried on the work of DISERCH. Disbanded in the mid-'80s. Style: Post-VELVETS, post-DISERCH sound with perhaps a little more whimsy. Songwriters: Jones and Holm, plus covers. Trivia: Aldritch dated CATHY CARROW during the late 70s and early 80s.

ALAN JONES - drums, vocals / IFAN HOLM (ex-DISERCH) - violin, guitar, organ / MIKE ALDRITCH - bass / ED MILLER (ex-DISERCH) - guitar, vocals

Scott WILLIAMS
Born: South Wales, 1954. Worked in local radio in the seventies and eventually set up his trio.  Style: piano-centric tongue-in-cheek art-pop-rock. Songwriters: all Williams. Trivia:
